The Commercial Accountant will provide strategic financial analysis and commercial management, maintaining oversight of all financial aspects of the designated business area while implementing improved processes and practices to drive stronger financial outcomes.

 



 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Commercial Management


Develop and prepare financial budgets and forecasts
• Prepare monthly management accounts
• Analyse business dashboard reporting to capture key labour metrics and trends
• Collaborate with stakeholders to develop business strategies and track initiatives
• Monitor sub-contractor performance and identify cost control measures
• Contribute to continuous improvement of business processes through data analysis
• Establish accounting procedures and controls to ensure accurate, reliable reporting
• Provide ongoing commercial analysis of operating models
• Support business unit managers with financial reporting matters
• Ensure financial, invoicing, and accounting practices are communicated, understood, and adhered to

 

Reporting


Deliver monthly management reports with insightful commentary
• Analyse historical data, trends, and business performance
• Conduct regular reviews of revenue, costs, and expenditure
• Liaise with sub-contractors and suppliers to monitor and communicate rate structures
• Produce and distribute budgets and forecasts
• Complete monthly and year-end reconciliations
• Review and monitor payroll compliance

 

Audit & Compliance


Support internal and external audits with accurate documentation
• Conduct due diligence on commercial and financial aspects of acquisition opportunities
• Manage data integrity across accounting and finance systems
• Maintain high ethical and professional standards in financial practices
• Undertake business case analysis for expansion opportunities
• Ensure compliance with corporate policy and legislative requirements
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation to ensure effective governance
• Assess and address the impact of regulatory or standards changes on business operations

 

Leadership


Build strong relationships with finance colleagues and key business unit managers
• Provide leadership and direction to the administration and finance staff
• Identify and address training needs within the team
• Clearly define accountabilities, deliverables, and expectations
• Develop the team’s commercial knowledge and capability
• Address performance and behavioural issues when required
• Drive continuous improvement and innovation across finance processes

Key Requirements


Experience in a financial or accounting role
• Strong knowledge of budget management, cost control, and financial reporting
• Proven experience in preparing, implementing, and reviewing budgets
• Demonstrated analytical and sound decision-making skills
• Ability to build effective relationships across all levels of the organisation
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to meet deadlines under pressure
• High attention to detail with a commitment to confidentiality

 

Qualifications


Tertiary qualification in accounting or a related discipline (required)
• CPA or CA certification (highly regarded)
